We carry a wide range of portable readers/scanners that can be used in many different situations for livestock such as llamas, alpacas, miniature donkeys, horses, elk, ostriches, etc. For all our readers, electromagnetic energy from the reader provides power to the microchip when it comes within the readers transmission field. The microchip then sends data back to the reader and is displayed on the LCD screen of the reader.
Below is a brief outline of our scanners/readers in our product line:
This is our smallest, most compact reader available. Designed for convenience and performance, the reader is small enough to be carried in your pocket.

- Dimensions are 6 cm x 18 cm x 2 cm.
- Powered by one 9 volt alkaline battery.
- Optional accessories include an RS232 Interface; 6 inch coil scanner; 12 inch and 30 inch probe scanner.
- Second-hand models with the same above specifications are sometimes available at a reduced price.
This is the worlds only water resistant extended-range reader. This unit is a portable and durable handheld microchip reader. When waterproofed, the unit is submersible. These units generate a non-hazardous radio frequency signal. Each model has RS-232 interface capabilities to a PC. Optional software is available to provide an automatic interface between the reader and the PC.

The AVID Reader Wedge software allows for the collection of data from a reader attached to the serial port of the computer.
The AVID Reader Wedge works by simulating keyboard input on a PC computer. When the reader reads a tag, the reader wedge software captures the tag information over the connected serial port, and types the data on the Windows system by emulating a keyboard. The information will be sent to the location of the cursor position when the reader completes a successful read on a tag. Requires a PC; one unused serial port; an AVID reader with an RS 232 cable; Windows 98+; and 3.5 MB free disc space.
The Industrial Coil Reader is designed to be mounted to a surface or in a manner that would allow a microchipped subject to pass over, beside or through the coil, providing an accurate reading of the subjects microchip ID number. The ID number is transmitted to the control box, which features upload/download capabilities using the RS-232 interface cable with a PC. Software is available for interface features with Windows programs. This also allows you to control the reading system with your computer and monitor its outputs remotely. Activity can be monitored 24 hours with AVID/computer linkage.
- Available in three sizes: 6 inch, 12 inch and 24 inch.
- All units include a control box and RS-232 computer interface cable.
- Coil Reader is submersible.
- Control Box can be waterproofed.
- Operating frequency is 125 KHz.
- Operating temperatures are 18 to 55C (0 to 130F).
- Power source is an optional AC 110 volt internal power supply or DC internal rechargeable power supply.
- Internal 256K memory with number mapping features is an option available at the time of purchase.
